Covid Poem #1: Sounds Like Thunder

Well, it sounds like thunder

but I don’t believe in rain

and who ever heard of getting wet?

Rain jackets can’t stop all

and I’m free to feel water

even if the lightning kills.

Trees lie in their screamed whispers

their warnings fall on deaf ears.

How can a storm threaten me?

Truth is, I don’t think

I would understand the fear

until the limb snaps

or the sky crackles

overhead.
